Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best specialty car lifts?
The top-quality specialty car lifts rated both by consumer affairs and experienced mechanics across the country are Atlas, AMGO, Auto Lift, BendPak, Challenger Lifts, Chassis Liner, iDeal, Norco, and SVI INC.
How much does it cost to install a specialty car lift?
Cost of installation will be affected by a few things:
- Car lift type
- How it needs to be installed
- Garage width and garage or shop flooring
- Garage or shop clearance/ceiling height
- Necessary power or accessories to run the lift properly
As a home mechanic or DIY, there is the option to go portable which generally doesn't require any, if much, installation. For 2 and 4 post specialty lifts, you will need a garage that can both accommodate the size of the lift and the items needed to install it properly and safely.
On average, the general starting price for specialty car lift installation begins at $800, adding lift kit or equipment to the garage door itself, about $700 and anchoring to your garage floor, $250.
Electrical work and a compressor may not be required depending on the model of the specialty lift you are looking to purchase, but if necessary to the model, then those expenses will need to be factored in as well.
How high does a garage have to be for a lift?
In general, the car lift should fit into one bay space, so it is optimal to have at least 11 to 12 feet of clearance height at a minimum.
