Professional-Grade Precision for Auto & Light Truck Applications
The Ranger DST-2420 wheel balancer represents the evolution of proven engineering and digital precision. Built as the next generation upgrade to the DST-1200, this dynamic balancer now handles wheels up to 30" diameter and 145 lbs., making it ideal for everything from compact cars to light trucks. Powered by our proprietary Digital Sensor Technology with 64-bit architecture and single-chip design, the DST-2420 delivers critical reliability and repeatability that professional technicians depend on day after day.
Whether you operate a single-bay independent shop or a high-volume tire center, the DST-2420 is engineered with rugged toughness to deliver perfectly balanced wheels around the clock. It features our proven Direct-Axis belt drive system with exceptional +/- 1 gram accuracy, ensuring every wheel leaves your bay vibration-free. In just six seconds, the balancer calculates the exact weight needed and displays the precise location with bright LED indicators—minimizing downtime and maximizing throughput.
The DST-2420 offers comprehensive balancing modes—dynamic, static, and three alloy settings—allowing you to confidently service OEM wheels, aftermarket performance wheels, and specialty configurations with minimal effort. Automatic features like electronic braking, self-calibration, and auto-start when the hood is lowered further streamline your workflow, while manual data entry gives experienced techs total control over every parameter.
Why the DST-2420 Stands Out
- Exceptional Speed & Accuracy: 6-9 second average cycle time with +/- 1 gram (.035 oz) accuracy and 0.01 ounce resolution ensures every balance is fast and flawless.
- Extended Capacity: Handles wheels from 10" to 30" diameter, 2" to 18" width, and up to 47" tire diameter—covering nearly every passenger and light truck application.
- Precision DataWand™: Automatically enter all wheel parameter settings in less than three seconds with the innovative DataWand™ and inner data set arm, reducing setup time and operator error.
- Advanced Digital Sensor Technology: Multi-directional quartz piezoelectric load sensors combined with a single digital rotation encoder detect longitudinal, transversal, and shear effects for unmatched unbalance detection.
- Smart Weight Optimization: Automatically calculates the minimum weight required for optimal balance, saving you money on weight inventory and improving your bottom line.
Digital Sensor Technology – The Heart of Precision
Our highly accurate Digital Sensor Technology features a 64-bit digital signal processor and single-chip architecture that dramatically increases productivity and offers unprecedented speed and accuracy—especially critical when using sophisticated balance and weight placement techniques required for today's high-tech OEM and aftermarket wheels.
Single-chip circuit board architecture provides inherent performance and reliability advantages compared to multi-chip implementations. Beyond overall latency reductions, the single-chip design significantly boosts device throughput. An extremely fast dedicated hyper transport protocol allows data to communicate with the microprocessor at much faster speeds. This solution offers unmatched integration of features and functionality while resulting in lower power consumption and minimal heat dissipation.
The DST-2420 employs highly precise dual-component piezoelectric quartz load sensors combined with a single digital rotation encoder that measure longitudinal, transversal, and shear effects for multi-directional force unbalance detection. These piezoelectric sensors are extremely sensitive and offer long-term stability and freedom from fatigue, delivering a service life that is virtually unlimited. The high rigidity quartz crystal sensors result in very high frequency detection across all three measurement directions, ensuring every reading is accurate and repeatable.
Quick and Precise Setup for Maximum Efficiency
Multi-Size Center Cones and Quick-Nut Bell Adapter: The DST-2420 makes mounting wheels fast and easy with multi-size center cones and a full rubber perimeter no-mar "Quick-Nut" bell adapter, minimizing the risk of costly wheel damage. The quick-release hub nut dramatically reduces setup times, letting you move from one job to the next with minimal delay.
Comprehensive Mounting Cone Package: The included tooling package covers a wide range of applications. You receive three standard automotive and light truck cones (1.75"–2.75", 2.75"–3.50", 3.50"–4.25") and one heavy-duty truck cone (4.50"–5.00"), ensuring you're ready for virtually any vehicle that rolls into your bay. Side cone storage pegs keep mounting cones readily available and organized.
Precision-Machined Shaft: The 36-mm hardened-steel shaft with ACME thread (30-degree 3-P) provides rock-solid support and long-lasting durability, even under the demands of high-volume operations.
Intuitive Operator Interface and Advanced Features
Wheel Graphic Interface: A touch-pad display panel features tire and wheel assembly graphics that simplify speed entry of wheel data and guide technicians through balancing procedures. Operator function keys are labeled with simple, easy-to-read icons, helping operators quickly identify and command all balancing functions without guesswork.
Automatic Rolling Wheel Parameter Setting: This innovative feature saves valuable time and minimizes errors. With the Precision DataWand™, you can automatically enter all wheel parameter settings in less than three seconds.
Multiple Balancing Modes: Easily configure dynamic, static, standard alloy, and variable alloy settings with the simple push of a button. This flexibility allows you to select the exact weight placement location you choose for the specific wheel being serviced, accommodating a variety of wheel styles and designs.
Audible and Visual Alerts: An audible alarm and brightly displayed LEDs identify exact weight amounts and precise positioning for perfect balancing every time. You'll never second-guess whether you've hit the target location.
Unit Flexibility: Switch between gram/ounce and millimeter/inch selections to match your preference or shop standards. Balancing increments can be set to 0.25 oz or 0.01 oz for fine-tuned precision.
LED Rolling Wheel Weight Displays – Precision Made Easy
Bright LED weight placement indicators show weight positions as the wheel is gently rolled to exact top-dead-center. Tiered weight placement indicators help identify out-of-sight weight placement such as split-weight or hidden "behind-the-spoke" techniques. This system aids with both clip-on and tape weight placement at precise locations for zero-on balancing every time.
The wheel restraint pedal secures wheels at precisely 12 o'clock for easier servicing and proper weight placement. An LED inner wheel target light automatically illuminates the interior of the rim and helps identify the exact weight placement location. This light auto-activates each time the wheel restraint pedal is depressed, so you never struggle to see where weights should go—even on deep-dish or complex wheel designs.
Engineered for Durability and Convenience
Serpentine Poly-V Belt: The DST-2420 features a serpentine poly-V belt with a polyester-aramid fiber composite core that resists degradation of functional performance under extreme operating conditions. This belt mates perfectly with the motor and spindle sheave for continuous tension and smooth distribution, ensuring reliable operation shift after shift.
Robust Motor: Powered by a 1.5 HP motor compatible with 110V/220V, 50/60 Hz, 1Ph, the DST-2420 operates at a safe low RPM balancing speed of 180 RPM for smooth, controlled spins.
Automatic and Manual Start Options: Choose manual start or set the balancer to auto-start when the hood is lowered, giving you flexibility based on your workflow and technician preferences.
Self-Calibration Function: Built-in self-calibration ensures the machine maintains peak accuracy over time without the need for frequent external recalibration.
Open-Sided Hood Design: The open-sided hood allows for broader coverage of tire shapes and sizes, accommodating a wider variety of wheel configurations without compromising safety.
High-Volume Storage: A high-volume top weight tray and side shelf storage give you ample room to inventory a wide variety of wheel weights and tools, keeping everything you need within arm's reach.
