Q: What is a lift in automotive?
A: A “lift” in the automotive industry refers to a car lift, which is a large machine that raises vehicles so that service technicians can inspect them and fix any problems with ease. Lifts are especially helpful when technicians need to see the underside of a vehicle or change a vehicle’s tires. There are many different types of lifts, but the four main ones are scissor lifts, single post lifts, 2 post lifts, and 4 post lifts.
Q: How thick does the concrete need to be for a car lift?
A: Check your lift’s manual to see how thick your concrete should be. According to the Whip Industries 2 post lift product manual, “The floor where the lift is to be installed must be a minimum of 4” thickness of concrete. Concrete must be reinforced with steel rebar with a minimum compressive strength of 3,000 PSI. Failure by the purchaser to provide the recommended mounting surfaces could result in personal injury, property damage and/or unsatisfactory lift performance.”
